Are you proud to belong to the Rotary club ofNewmarket aka RCoN or RN (for the new agers) ?
If the answer is YES then what are your reasons? We do this in many ways. This week we saw ….
• Ric Buchanan buy the box and gave us an update on past member John Miocevic remembered fondly for his time with the best Rotary club in NZ ( I wonder who coined that phrase?)… especially his raucous laugh.
• Alastair “Alimac” president 1995-1996 came up to me and said how much he still misses his dad Dr. Alastair Macfarlane, president 1975 -1976 whose anniversary of his passing In 1986 at 75 years young was last Tuesday 26 July falling to a ruptured aorta a shock to those around him as he kept his condition to himself for the 5 years prior. …. so we remember the original “Big Al” whose joke book is the stuff of legend and also in our Macfarlane Medal
• PE Mike Alison mentioned that he had been in touch with John Overall legendary club stalwart and gold standard volunteer doing well in Sydney and supporting Andree after a hip op.
This is just the tip of the iceberg of us belonging and you can find out more in our Members Slot below and, do your bit by contributing
Another is President Dave’s initiating our phone tree. DO TRY IT.

Curiosity and Perseverance
This morning one of my team members noticed a new park bench had been installed outside our offices. She couldn’t tell from her warm comfortable seat in the office what the surface under the bench was made off. So, she put on her jacket and went down to check it out.
Last weekend I saw a young girl being tested at the RYPEN camp with a climbing obstacle. At first, she laughed off her failure and was keen to quit. Through others encouragement, and probably 20 minutes of struggle, she learned the hack of getting up the obstacle. She then transformed into a leader, encouraging the next young climber.
When was the last time you exercised your curiosity, or were rewarded for your perseverance?
Got a great story? Please share it with our Rapport editor or “Buy the Mic” at our next meeting.

He emphasised actions needing to be taken in regard to the Auckland Council – he views the levels of our current borrowings as unsustainable.

Get Auckland moving
Make the most of our harbour and environment
He commented on the introduction of the Auckland Super City, comparing expenditure and staffing levels in 2010 and 2021. Questions followed thick and fast on such matters as traffic congestion, IT solutions, road tolls, resource consents and working with Councillors.
Presentations from other Mayoral candidates to come in succeeding meetings.
