Editors Rant

Welcome to your first newsletter for 2022 2023  in the Rotary Newmarket Year of Dave where we will not only IMAGINE ROTARY but also celebrate perfection in the imperfection …kicking off with a perfect trifecta for changeover missed attendance for 3 out of the 4 comms team.
On this note let me introduce you to your comms team; Simon Dalton , Colin Lucas, Alan Hayward and and myself back in the Big Wig Editor role after over a decade away … BUT we like to think that every single member is on our comms team. To this end, you will see the format headers allow for your contributions so we look forward to receiving your feedback, news and pix. Imagine !  Ron Seeto

Changeover - President Dave

In warm and convivial surrounding at the Royal Oaks Bowling President Greg hosted Changeover and  passed the chains of office to President Elect Dave Birch.
The event was also attended by a large number of club members, spouses and guests including DGE Alan Smith, with wife Sue, along with Evelyn Chan – our Area Governor.
Following a feast of epic proportions, Pres. Greg reflected on his year and thanked the Board who have worked with him through another challenging year with COVID.
He also called for a moments silence to remember and celebrate the lives of members who have passed away during the year – Harold Titter, Ian Bond, Iain McKenzie and just last week Ron McPherson.
President Elect Dave, on accepting the chains of office, commented he was humbled by a room full of Rotarians.  Diverse people bound together by a common thread of caring for:
  1. Their community – local and global,
  2. The environment; and
  3. One another.

Drawing on the current theme of Matariki Pres. Elect Dave reminded members that our current club was a result of paving stones laid down by prior members.
Our future club would require a continuation of that forward looking leadership.  This ties in perfectly with incoming Rotary International President Jennifer Jones’ theme of “Imagine Rotary”.
Pres. Elect Dave introduced his leadership team – and what a talented, energetic and good looking team they are – link here to photo.
Finally, Dave closed by acknowledging the challenges of our three “COVID Presidents” (Colin, Scott, Greg) and thanked Pres Greg for the courage to step-up in what was always going to be a tough year.
Gwyneth and Rob exchanged flowers and the night kicked on with Apple Crumble more shared fellowship.

Club News and Notices

No Meeting 5th July – Next Meeting 12th July

A large number of club members have commitments at this years RYLA event. Accordingly, Pres Dave has decided there will be no lunch meeting on the 5th July and the next one will be a dinner meeting the 12thJuly at Remuera Golf Club.
On the 12th July Pres Dave will share more of the Boards vision for the year ahead.  This links perfectly to our guest speaker Professor Helen Danish-Myer who will also speak about vision - specifically our eyesight. Please book promptly when the invitation comes out as we have limited seats available at Remuera Golf Club.

Future Club Meetings – EREEZ

For the next 90 Days the Board has agreed to have lunch meetings at Ellerslie Racecourse on the 1st, 3rdand 4th Tuesday of each month.
The second Tuesday will be a dinner meeting at Remuera Golf Club.  If there is a 5th Tuesday in a month there will be a Zoom meeting.
Remember this as EREEZ and you’ll never be in the wrong spot.
During the next 90 days the Board will be reviewing the place and time of our meeting for the remainder of the year.
All club members will be consulted during this period.

Friends of RCON - Partners/Spouses/Guests/etc

Our Communications team, led by Ron Seeto, will be adding emails gained at the Changeover dinner to our “Friends” email distribution list.
This, together with a phone tree, soon to be launched, will enable better communication across the club and our wider community of friends.
If you have friends, family, or others you wish to add to this “Friends” list please send their details to Ron Seeto.
