The Christmas season is upon us.   
 
Our Christmas party will be hosted by Alastair and Jill Macfarlane, the Christmas party will be held at their place, 1 Aldred Road, on Tuesday 10th December. This will be our final get-together for the year.  
 
All the details for the event are in the President's notes below.
 
Finally this is the last Rapport of the year.  Have a great Christmas and New Year.

Christmas Hamper Packing
 
This year's Christmas Hamper packing with the Salvation Army will take place Saturday 14 December 2024 - 9.00am to 12.00. Volunteers have been notified. Any queries to Alan Hayward viv.alan@xtra.co.nz.

Christmas Party Details
 
The event will be held at 1 Aldred Road.
Venue is down the long R.O.W. (look for balloons)

  1. Starting at 6pm.
  2. The event is BYO and red wine drinkers are asked to please drink outside !!!
  3. Food will be provided
  4. A cover charge of $60 per head will apply
  5. Members NOT on DD should make payment to the ASB account  12-3252-0025507-00 - use your name as a reference.
 
New Support Members
To encourage younger members to become involved, provision is being made for an RCON Support Team category of membership. An admin fee would be payable, and the listing and details of the Team members would be included in the Handbook.

Aorere Reading Enrichment Programme
Awards
 
President John surrounded by tutors and staff for the final REP Session at Aorere College last week, when certificates, badges and books were presented to participating second half of year students on the completion of their courses. 
 
Earlier in the meeting President John invited Krish Krishnan to read a letter he had received from one of his REP students. Krish had helped with the identification of a dyslexia problem and then worked with the student over the ensuing half year.  The moving letter expressed the student’s appreciation of the mentoring and the significant support provided by Krish. It is below.
 
Brett O'Reilly
 
Brett O’Riley, past CEO of the Employers and Manufacturers Association, was our speaker. Brett is now working with the APEC Business Advocacy Council and has recently been appointed to the Board of the Environmental Protection Authority.
 
Brett’s association with Rotary started as a member of the GSE team visiting Washington DC in 1992. He is a member and Past President of the Auckland Rotary Club.
 
Brett spoke of his work with the APEC Business group, his recent trip to Peru, and NZ’s current precarious economic standing in the world.

  • Oil and gas exploration
  • China’s decarbonisation strategy
  • The need for a stable NZ investment environment
  • Education
  • Infrastructure and long-term planning
A wide-ranging and apposite review, supported by great answers to some interesting questions raised.
