New Support Members
To encourage younger members to become involved, provision is being made for an RCON Support Team category of membership. An admin fee would be payable, and the listing and details of the Team members would be included in the Handbook.

Club News and Notices
Rotary Science and Technology Forum

Brian McMath introduced Nadiya Mudaliar from Epsom Girls Grammar and Katerina Collier-Tanielu from Aorere College both attendees at the Rotary Science & Technology Forum in January 2024

Katrina from Aorere College talked to us about her amazing experience at RSTF 2024
  • This was an engaging experience and not at all intimidating.
  • Charlotte & Narayan were her advisors
  • Katrina was in the green team..
  • Katrina thanked us for the opportunity of attending the Forum
  • Her intention is to follow a career in Veterinary Science.

Nadiya from Epsom Girls Grammar learned a lot for her future pathway from RSTF 2024 .
  • Visited Massey University & other learning institutes
  • Bachelor of Engineering is Nadya’s preferred pathway
  • The forum helped to build communication skills
  • Fostering an inclusive environment is important to pivot growth
  • Intends to go to the University of Canturbury to attend the Engineering School at that institution
  • Nadya thanked the Rotary community for supporting her.
Both of these young women spoke confidently about their experiences at the forum.  They are both a credit to their teachers and their schools.

Roger Partridge - The New Zealand Initiative

Our main speaker at our meeting was Roger Partridge introduced by Warwick Leyland.
  • Roger chairs the NZ Initiative one of the largest Think Tanks in NZ.
  • Roger provided a score card on the Government's performance since it was elected in late 2023.
  • Roger commented that Wellington is a bit gloomy as the number of consultant contracts have dropped significantly and the head count in the public service is being reduced.
  • He does see green shoots however.
  • The government is doing well except in 2 or 3 spots.
  • Stupid policies have been dropped, returning the Reserve Banks focus to inflation is good.
  • The one hundred and ninety day plans are a good idea but we need to have aspirational thinking on top of those plans.
  • Overall Chris Luxon is doing well
  • 5 ministers attended NZ Institute retreat giving outstanding presentations and inspiring leadership .
  • Congestion charging is needed.
  • Erica Stanford is very good for her courageous attitude.
  • Ministry of Education is being led in a revolutionary manner by Erica’s attitude.
  • Chris Bishop is the Housing Minister who is driving down house prices. Alot of work is rquird of trh
  • Health system needs to be reformed as it should be based on G.P.s.
  • National is going well & is improving NZ
  • HoeverFiscal spending is still too much.
  • A forecast for balancing NZ economy is important.
  • Nicola Willis will need to borrow 27 Billion. She has not got on top of crown expenditure which needs to be pared back after the dramatic increase in expenditure by the previous government.  Remember the previous Finance Minister Grant Robertson increased government spending by 25%
  • Fiscal balance & government spending isn’t good .
  • The National Government needs to do better with an ambitious vision.
  • We should be the most prosperous small nation on earth
  • Lifting our sights is critical as a country. So we need aspiration.
Roger's comments were as usual a challenge to us. There is alot to be done to get our country back onto an economic track that generates prosperity for all.
