ERKs
In the absence of our scheduled speaker due to illness, PDG Willard Martin spoke to us about the planning and organisation for Emergency Response Kits, under the auspices of Rotary World Community Service.
The District has packed 1000 kits annually, but with fewer Cyclones in the Islands recently, an encouraging supply of 3000 kits has been built up, strategically placed for future Pacific emergencies.
Willard discussed
Auckland warehouse requirements
List and sourcing of contents
Financing the kits [at a cost of around $600 each]
MFAT support
Shipping & Distribution
The image below is an ERK. A small unassuming (but heavy) container of neccessaries designed to get a family of four back on their feet after a cyclone or other natural disaster.
Fellowship Committee
Chair David Bradshaw led a discussion of Fellowship options for the coming year, seeking preferences from those present for the various activities.
REP Graduation at Aorere College
The Rotary Reading Enrichment Programme (REP) at Aorere College celebrated the graduation of 24 Year 9 students from the programme last week. The students had completed a semester (2 terms) of REP and displayed good progress in their reading skills and in their general confidence. Each student was presented with a certificate, a REP badge and a book. In turn they had to speak to the assembled tutors/mentors, members of the school staff and fellow students about their REP experience and, most importantly, thank their tutor/mentor.
The programme has been run at Aorere since 2021. We will have a new group of students for the next semester (July - December) We are always looking for more people to tutor and mentor the students for a couple of hours on a Wednesday each week during the school term. If you would like to know more about possibly becoming a tutor, please contact Scott Burridge. You don’t need to be a member of the Club or Rotary to be a REP tutor.
