June has arrived.  Changeover is almost upon us.
It has been an interesting year.  People have joined us and have left us.  The big change will be our amalgamation with Penrose Rotary and the opportunities that will provide for the club and also the challenges it will pose.

From President Bill - Presidents Message
President Bill's notes;

President Bill thanked all those involved in the very successful Circus Quirkus held at the Due Drop Centre, Manukau, at Kings Birthday weekend.  5000 chidren and their caregivers had been entertained. Proceeds from the day looked encouraging, with the final charities figure to be confirmed shortly.

Garden Design Fest 23 & 24 November

Early bird sales have closed with a pleasing take up.  There is a good deal of enthusiasm for this event so we are hoping to build on the success of the last Design Fest.

New Support Members
To encourage younger members to become involved, provision is being made for an RCON Support Team category of membership. An admin fee would be payable, and the listing and details of the Team members would be included in the Handbook.
Discussion at the previous meeting included
  • Provision of an appropriate brief information package in digital form, and detailing costs
  • Support Membership Age range to be decided
  • Production of the new Club brochure
Changeover
To be held on Tuesday 25th June at the Remuera Golf Club. Mark Knoff-Thomas from the Newmarket Business Association will be the speaker.

Incoming President John Hawke reported on the Trees for Survival planting he, Peter Corner and John Meadowcroft had undertaken with St Peters College at Skydive, Parakai, the previous week.
Le Quesnoy Museum
Our Speaker was Greg Moyle, until recently a member of the NZ War Memorial Trust. Greg paid tribute to Herb Farrant and Sir Don McKinnon who had also been instrumental in getting the Trust and the Museum at Le Quesnoy established.

Greg outlined the pattern of the progress of WW1 from NZ’s perspective.
After the trauma and enormous losses at Gallipoli, the New Zealand Division had served gallantly on the Western Front. It saw action on the Somme, Messines, Broodseinde Ridge, and Passchendaele. In 1918 the Division was at the forefront of the British 3rd Army during the 100 days offensive, following actions at Baupame,  Cambrai and ultimately Le Quesnoy.
