REGIONALISATION : CREATING TOMORROW 2 takeaways

Is there any downside to a FREE look?
Rapport issue 4 gave you a heads up on  Regionalisation…and you can find out more by following links. Please read the Fact Sheet which provides more explanation.  Further information is available at creatingtomorrowrotary.org
Rather than repeat the vast amount of info available on this link from Fact sheets, FAQ’s and How to Vote ….also sent out by Pres Dave as attachments to members prior to our Zoom ….below are 2 takeaways from your Rapport team from this week’s zoom presentation PDG Ingrid Waugh and Co Chair of the Zone 8 regionalisation project. We were also pleased to have our AG Evelyn Chan in attendance.

your Big Wig Ed’s takeaways from a past governor’s pov
• the world has changed since Rotary’s current operating structure was established almost 100years ago
• does Rotary’s modus operandi  need to change to keep pace?
•Zone 8 covering 21 Districts, 1300 rotary clubs & 83 Rotaract clubs is one of 34 Rotary International (RI) zones  covering NZ, Australia and the Pacific Islands
• ONE of 2 Zones selected, sanctioned and funded by RI to explore and test a new operating structure in a pilot over 3 years
• the pilot incudes Rotarians and Rotaractors
• to initiate this pilot there must be 2/3 YES vote from each club
• broad goals include more flexible types of membership, improved club support, new models for collaboration, more meaningful projects and greater visibility
• benefits include more choices for engagement, improved efficiencies less duplication, new leadership opportunities, direct and easy access to project or program expertise
• not a one size fits all reflecting diversity, cultural , gender and geographical differences
• Regional Council members nominated and voted in by Clubs reports to RI Board. Likewsie Area Leaders responsible for 25 to 30 clubs reporting to the regiuonal council.
A question was asked “ Why cant this happen quicker than the 3 year timeframe?” Indeed. This is our opportunity to allow a significant rather than a mere step change in pursuing our next century of SERVICE.
The Future of Rotary is truly in our hands. Why not VOTE YES for a free look?
Change is in the Air
Alan Hayward’s ever insightful takeaways
Last Tuesday evening, on our Zoom meeting, PDG Ingrid Waugh brought us up to date with the proposed Rotary  Zone 8 regionalisation trial for three years from 1 July 2023.
If collectively we agree, funding from RI will be forthcoming to test a new Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific regional structure.
As President Dave says, if someone offers you money, why would you not take it?   The trial will sit alongside our more traditional organisational pattern to begin with, and at the end of the period the expectation is we will know better how to focus and sustain our Rotary for the future.
Will Sydney take over?  Will ‘Team Managers’ ( Area Leaders) work?  Will this all become another bureaucratic nightmare? The answers of course are in our own hands – we have the chance to shape the future and strengthen our local and national profiles.
So now as a Club we will advise President Dave how to cast our vote. The evening’s straw poll looked promising  – why would we not at least give moving with the times a chance?
