CLUB NEWS

this Tuesday lunch meeting we managed a quorum for our DG visit, IPP Greg’s AGM and recognising our latest honorary member Bob Stephens
DG Visit we got 2 for the price of one in District power couple Allan & Sue. Many of you will have heard Big Wig Ed say a DG’s address like any great address must have a strong beginning and a great end – preferably quite close together.
Personal stuff:
Both first gen kiwis from “10 pound pom” immigrants Allan has been married to Sue for 47 years. Sue is not a Rotarian but is the Ops manager for ROMAC. So both are Rotary focussed. Their combined work life experience have prepared them well for their current District roles. For Allan this has encompassed sporting and business worlds as  a junior Kiwi league rep, time in Foodtown, the NZ police, Eric Watson and setting up the Noel Leeming franchises  …for Sue a trained physiotherapist and mother to 2 daughters Debbie and Renee. Together they acquired a disability equipment supplier in 2000 a $11M company with 18 staff which they turned into Accesable NZ https://www.accessable.co.nz/who-we-are/ selling in 2021 for $100M with 140 staff. Attracted by our motto, Service Above Self,  Allan joined Rotary in 2015. There you goIt is never too late to serve through Rotary (Big Wig Ed)

Rotary stuff:Big Wig Ed’s takeaways in soundbites and pix below......................................
.................
  1. a strong beginning  RI Pres Jennifer Jones. “Judge me not as a Woman…” DEI is to be embraced. You will recall Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity featured 2 issues back in Rapport Issue 28.
  2. RI Presidential Theme .What does IMAGINE ROTARY mean to each one of us. Responding to DG Allan , young Holly said ..”it is giving back to others, paying it forward.”
  3. Our Purpose according to Gen Secretary John Hewko includes End Polio + next global initiative will be Mental Health

  1. Regionalisation means Change & continuity coexisting. Clubs are the driving force. Minimise Duplication. One Voice for clear messaging.
  2. District 9920 Key goals and Initiatives. This one made Big Wig Ed’s heart sing “Working together in Clusters of clubs”…and another NEW clubs ( one chartered before Christmas 2 more in the pipeline)
  1. Everyone needs to Belong. Membership is everyone’s responsibility. Just DO it!
  2. ASK not TELL. Build relationships by going back to basics of Fellowship, Projects , Fun.
  3. Why are we Rotarians?
  1. a great ending DG Allan brought out his secret weapon Sue on ROMAC Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children  https://www.romac.org.au. Big wig Ed’s 2 takeaways
  2. notwithstanding the stories of saving one child’s life at a time, ROMAC is about SAVING & TRAINING local health providers
  3.  if every ANZAC Rotarian donated $20 per year no fundraising would be required.
