As members will be aware we support the Taveuni Eye Project and have done so for a number of years.

There follows the text of a letter received from a recipient of the Project's work.

This makes it even more worthwhile...
“I ONCE WAS BLIND BUT NOW I SEE”
I quoted this from the hymn “Amazing Grace”

A tribute to Taveuni Eye Project by Akeleto Tainamena, Vidawa Village, Taveuni.

I had undergone cataract surgery on both of my eyes at Waiyevo Hospital in 2017. Recalling the incident, it was a miracle when the eye pads were removed the next day and I was able to see. If I was not wheel  chair bounded I could have jumped up and down just to show how happy I was.

I am a spinal injury case. It took months of training and exercising with Physiotherapist at the Rehab Centre just to get movement back on my toes. But comparing to getting my vision back in just 14 hours is just a miracle for me.

For the past six months when I lost my vision, I solely depended on my wife Filomena for guidance . I felt withdrawn.

Now I am able to use the phone, read the Times/ story books, see the TV and most importantly, wheel around the house confidently and Filomena can perform other chores without worrying so much about me.

So I salute you Dr Jeff for your leading hands in performing Eye Surgeroy which is a dream come true for me and many others and I pray that the Good Lord will continue to bless you and your wonderful work.

I also want to acknowledge the great work that Taveuni Rotary is doing.

Vinaka vakalevu Geoff, Michael and your hard working team in catering  for the many people who come for the  surgery and return home with a new  life. I will always treasure what Taveuni Rotary has done for me.
