Due to Auckland being at COVID Alert Level 3 until at least Wednesday this week, the meeting at the Auckland Med School has been rescheduled to 5.30pm on Tuesday 23 February. We hope that the Alert Level then will allow our meeting to take place. If you have already registered, you don't need to do anything further. If you can no longer come, please let me know. If you haven't registered but can now make it on the rescheduled date, please register below. At this meeing, Professor Cris Print and Dr Rexson Tse will be kindly hosting the Club at the Auckland University Medical School. This is our chance to hear first hand about the research that the Club has helped to fund and the benefits that may accrue from it. Dr Tse is the 2020 winner of the Newmarket Rotary Oncology Award, an award that is bestowed and funded by NRCF. This will also be a unique chance to see behind the scenes at the Med School. Drinks and nibbles will be provided. This will not only be an interesting evening but also an opportunity to reconnect with your fellow members, their spouses and friends. Please come and support the event. Please also feel free to invite friends. Please advise any dietary requirements. There is a charge of $20 per person payable to the Club. If you don't have a DD set up, please pay to the RCON bank account. The RCON bank account number is: 12-3252-0025507-00 ASB Bank, West Auckland branch. Please add your name as a Reference. Our skeleton isn’t something we tend to think about and most of us take it for granted. However, if you want to live an active, independent life well into old age, a healthy skeleton matters. Most people hear the word ‘fracture (broken bone)’ and think ‘nuisance’. Some initial pain, an awkward few weeks in plaster, and having to shower with a plastic bag. Not many people consider that it could be an indicator of something more serious. Christine Gill, Executive Director of Osteoporosis New Zealand, will be speaking at our meeting on 30 March at the Golf Club to discuss the human skeleton, the impact on the skeleton from lifestyle factors such as exclusion diets, being underweight, smoking and exercise. They will also highlight the risk factors for osteoporosis such as previous fragility fracture and historic use of some medications (e.g. prednisone) as well as treatment and diagnosis of osteoporosis. This is our first meeting at the Golf Club in 2021 so please come along for this important and interesting talk and the chance to socialise with fellow members, spouses and friends. |
