Editors Rant
Kia ora,
Is it me or has the year just got busier?
Not wishing to skite….this past week I have been at 3 rotary events with our greater Rotary whanau…last Friday iit was riding trains on Polio All Transit,  followed by an Indian Diaspora Night hosted by the Rotary Papatoetoe Central on Sunday gone  then this past Monday Sharon and I and Peter Ross were the RCoNteurs at Rotary Auckland’s PHF Sir David Levene )tribute lunch where the common denominator amongst all 3 was FELLOWSHIP and you can find some pix in Club News & Rotary World below
Read on for more annual seasonal FELLOWSHIP activities such as the Joy Store project, Xmas hamper packing ,…and an event reported as Bigger than a Rotary meeting in Members Slot

All this activity  means time out doing stuff.
As we look forward to Christmas and a break it is timely to read Dave’s Rave…and reflect on the time we do, can and should spend on  ME, WE & US

Stop press: Now I hope you all saw John Hawke’s photo essay last issue & realise how easy it  can be to make your contribution to Members Slot

Me, We & Us.

Because I think in pictures (another blog subject?), image three buckets marked: Me, We, & Us.
Each requires topping up with aroha and time.
“Me” is singular, you.  “We” is your immediate whanau and your closest friends.  “Us”, the broader community/humanity.
The different buckets are filled at different times and rates, dependant on your week, your year or your life stage.
A working couple with young children might have very little in their respective “Me” buckets.
A retired single person may be able to focus more on their “Us” bucket.
Common-sense really.  To have a balanced life you must contribute to each bucket somewhat regularly – say weekly.
Consider last week – did you have “Me” time, and as a family some “We” time and some “Us” time contributing to the broader community.
Over longer periods we tend to either get good at balancing our buckets, or not.
Which buckets do you occasionally neglect?  Me, We or Us?  Each is important.
Club News and Notices

This week’s meeting

Headway Brain Injury

We were sobered and confronted by Steve Jenkins and Ruth Hamilton from the Headway Brain Injury Trust.   www.headway.org.nz

In view of its seriousness, since 1994 the W.H.O. has mandated “Brain” Injury, rather than “Head” Injury to describe the  condition.
There are about 125 NZ cases a day: up to 30% medical in origin, the rest caused by trauma.  Another breakdown:  Falls 40%, Motor accidents 25%, Medical issues 20%, Assault 15%

Steve talked of concussion as a mechanical event – “the journey” – with brain injury sadly sometimes “the destination.”  Headway works with a programme of activities, services and support.......

Bigger than a Rotary Meeting… almost!

Pity anyone else lunching at Morell last Thursday - such was the noisy conversation and laughter produced by the 19 of us gathered for a Pre-Christmas Ladies Lunch with Rob Birch.

Food was delicious, company was sparkling and a fantastic time was clearly enjoyed by all. Many thanks to Val Smith and Sally Ross for organising the event.  Looking forward to next time already!

ONCE MORE for the Kindness Collective & JOY STORE

The Kindness Collective   www.kindness.co.nz  is again operating its Joy Store this Christmas to provide gifts for some of those children who would otherwise go without. After visiting Santa at the store in Sandringham, each child is allowed to choose 3 gifts – at the gold, silver and bronze levels – roughly valued at about $50, $40 and $30 dollars, respectively.
Members are invited to bring new suitable toys, unwrapped, that can be passed on to the Collective for the children. In lieu of toys, cash donations will be equally acceptable. Receipts can be issued by the Collective.
Ariana Andrews [who is a member of the Board of the KC] and AIan Hayward will be accepting gifts and/or donations for the second and last time at the next Club meeting on 22nd November.  Cash in an envelope giving your details and email address for a receipt to be issued by the Collective, please.
