At our meeting on 2 May we had 3 keynote speakers, two in person and one who spoke to us by way of a video recording, as she was, at the time of the meeting, in Sri Lanka. Auckland University Summer Science School Our first 2 speakers Laura Schnauer, and Narissa Limpapasurat (by video), attended the Auckland University Summer Science School which was a two-week residential program that took place over the Christmas holidays. Both Laura and Narrisa were sponsored by the Rotary club of Newmarket. The Science School enables students to put what they have learnt in the classroom into effect in real life situations. It gives them a glimpse of the real world which is far different to the structured environment they experience at school it is a transitional program which is in part showing them how the real world operates. There is a process to go through to gain access to the program. The applicant/s must make application for enrolment, they have to be interviewed, then meet the interviewers requirements call, they then attend the program and then report back to their sponsors in this case our Rotary club.
