Monday 4^th December:  Blues “Pack the Bus” present sorting at Mt Wellington Sallies: 9am  – 3.00pm

Our combined Clubs’ foodpacking team will be providing assistance with the selection and categorisation of 25k children’s Christmas gifts collected by the Blues immediately prior.

Our first meeting of 2024 is the annual joint meeting with the Penrose Rotary Club.

The Speaker will be Brian McMath whose subject will be "A Tree is More Than Wood"

As we move to a world where fuels, chemicals plastics, garments, and even drugs that are currently derived from petrochemicals are replaced 

Jono Ridler, 33, starts his swim at 10am on Tuesday from Aotea Great Barrier Island and swim to Narrow Neck Beach in Devonport.

Ridler will follow rules set out by the Marathon Swimmers Federation for the solo-unassisted open-water swim record. These state that over his almost two-day journey he won’t be able to make physical contact with any support vessel or person.

The current New Zealand record is 80.8km, which was a double-crossing of Lake Taupō.

Isaac Cleland   Rosterlab

Next Tuesday we have another young, enthusiastic tech guy talking to us about his start-up company

Isaac is a cofounder of RosterLab, an AI rostering start-up looking to automate and improve rostering processes worldwide. He started the company after qualifying as a PhD in nurse rostering optimisation from Auckland Uni.

RosterLab is the World champion in automatic rostering, having found the best solutions to the International Rostering Competition problem.

RosterLab has also won first place in the Velocity 100k Startup Competition.

Be sure to be there next Tuesday at Epsom Community Centre at 12:15pm to learn more about NZ’s amazing tech industry.

We have 2 great speakers: Karen Melville and Peter Wilson 

Karen Melville is the Stakeholder and Communications Manager for Ghella Abergeldie JV (GAJV) the contractor constructing the Central Interceptor. Her team looks after the various stakeholders impacted by the project. She’s been with the JV for more than four years and previously worked for Aurora Energy, an electricity distribution company in Dunedin.

She has a background in Public Relations and Journalism but is now focused on Stakeholder Engagement and participation, a fairly new sub-set of the communications industry where the focus is on the community and all parties involved in a project.

Peter Wilson is Stakeholder and Communications Lead for Watercare, dedicated to the CI project for the past four-and-a-half years. He sets the stakeholder strategy, promotes the benefits of the project via a range of communications media and manages relationships with local politicians.

Prior to this role, he worked at Auckland Transport in communications and stakeholder engagement. A range of roles in law, sales & marketing and tourism has given him a broad skill-set to bring to his diverse and challenging role at Watercare.

One Tree Hill College Trade Academy

The Trade Academy caters for up to 25 selected students in Year 13 who are committed to making a trade their chosen career path.

As part of the Trade Academy,  a Work Placement programme is in place which gives the students the opportunity each Wednesday for 10 weeks from (circa) mid May to mid August to complete on-site experience and complete appropriate working tasks.  For these Work Placement days the students are not expecting to be paid.

At the conclusion of the placement, while there is no promise, the ideal situation would be an offer of full time employment with an apprenticeship.

Chrissi Bollard who coordinates the Academy has agreed to speak to RCON 7th May at one of our lunch meetings.

It is hoped that members may be able to assist in introducing Chrissi to prospective companies that may be keen to participate.

This year’s winner of the 75^th Anniversary Hauraki Gulf Environment Award is Katherine Lockton.

Katherine is researching “milky white flesh syndrome” which in recent years has become a very

Concerning issue in the Hauraki Gulf snapper population.  It is a very good opportunity for the club to support this important work

Also we will be welcoming back previous awardees Sophie Roberts and Hayley Alena who will update us on progress with their projects.

We will also be welcoming Kate Thompson,  Development Manager, Faculty of Science who will give an overview of the

Range of awards that RCON has with the University.

Promises to be a very interesting and busy evening.

We will be addressed about how we intend to build our club.

The new Rotary Club Of Newmarket Support Team Member has it's first member.
