The Club is very fortunate to have the Rt Hon Sir Don McKinnon agree to talk to us on: “How can NZ achieve good diplomatic and trading relationships with China while staying onside with its traditional Western allies?” Sir Don served as the Commonwealth Secretary-General from 2000 to 2008. He is a former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. During his tenure as New Zealand’s longest serving Foreign Minister, he was the inspiration behind what has now become The Asia Society from the Asia 2000 Group, and also the Centre for Strategic Studies. Sir Don was named Foreign Minister of the Year by a World Economic Forum publication in 1998. He is now the chair of the New Zealand China Council. Sir Don has always been clear and unambiguous in his management of the extraordinarily important roles he has played in NZ and world affairs. We are fortunate to have him talk to us about matters which are vitally important to New Zealand and its future prosperity. Please register early and invite your friends to what will be a very interesting and enjoyable evening. Payment by members is via direct debit as usual. Guests can pay the $40 pp charge for the evening to the Rotary Newmarket bank account 12-3252-0025507-00 at ASB Bank, West Auckland branch (Please include name as a reference). |
