On Tuesday 2nd April Dr Bruce Hayward will be presenting on Auckland's Volcanic Fields Bruce is a geologist and paleontologist - his CV is impressive. He is a very enthusiastic speaker and I'm sure you will be in for a very interesting evening. I've lived on the side of 3 volcanoes in Auckland and often wonder about the wisdom of that. Like me I'm you will have lots of questions to ask him in that regard. Please use Clubrunner to indicate whether you will attend or not attend. On Tuesday 7th May Dr David Galler will be presenting on his exceptional medical work in Samoa. David is an accomplished after dinner speaker and this event is not to be missed. David is an Intensive Care Specialist at Middlemore Hospital where he has worked for 28 years; and is a visiting specialist to the National Health Service of Samoa. During his career, he has held a variety of leadership roles within the DHB and in broader society. He once was the Vice President, then President of the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists and for 7 years the Principal Medical Advisor to the Director General and Ministers of Health. David speaks frequently at medical conferences and to non-medical audiences. His book, "Things That Matter", largely concerns itself with personal stories from his life as a doctor and is threaded through with heart-rending experiences of dealing with patients who come close to death or families who’ve had to let a loved one go. On Tuesday he will recount his experiences as a visiting specialist in Samoa and the challenges he has faced in his ambition to improve health services there. Also on Tuesday we will hear from the 2 St Cuthberts students we supported at the National Science & Technology Forum. David is a very inspiring speaker and hearing from our Summer Science is always fascinating so I'm sure you will be in for a very interesting evening.

Te Ope Whakaora (the Māori branding for the Salvation Army) means 'the army that brings life'. In line with this mission, Epsom Lodge provides a transitional accommodation service and hauora support to up 85 residents who, for one reason or another, find themselves without suitable housing. We need your help! We have a vegetable garden at the side of our centre but we would like to move this closer to the kitchen. This would assist the kitchen staff in accessing the garden and encourage activity in our back yard from our residents. What you'll be doing:
Lunch from the kitchens will be provided! |
