The plan is to set up a school and pay for the education of disadvantaged choose children teaching them English and computer coding so that they can create websites, programs and apps. After 2 years the kid children then work for an outsourcing agency owned by Onja (the programs manager) providing software solutions for international clients.
The plan is for the outsourcing agency to fund through its income the training program so that the training program becomes self perpetuating. It is also hoped the program will go exponentially.
The effect of the program is that once the children have learnt English and coding skills the income they receive whilst working for outsourcing agency enables they and their families to improve themselves and pull themselves out of poverty.
Onja translates to “waves” in Malagasy and refers obliquely to the waves of prosperity it hopes to bring the people of Madagascar.
The program is in its infancy and having exhausted his personal resources Sam is looking for support both here in New Zealand and elsewhere. Sam has set up a fundraising page but is looking for further funding. The funding sought is approximately $35,000 will be applied to recruit teachers construct the training centre obtain equipment meet administrative costs and so on. These funds will recruit a first class of 30 students and hopefully build on Sam’s dream.
Sam came across as a very genuine individual seeking to unlock Africa’s next top coders.
The project is one that Rotary should look at closely and consider supporting.
