Stories
The 4th Industrial Revolution
Our guest speaker was Gary Green of Quanton Limited.

Quanton is about Robotic Process Automation.  It is a software platform that sets up complete autonomously complete processes, activities and transactions in one or more unrelated software systems to deliver results and outcomes.

Quoting from the companies website the technology used, use an application’s user interface to automate processes to mimic what the ordinary user can achieve but far faster.

Gary told us that we are in the fourth Industrial Revolution.

The first was in the 1800s when steam and mechanical innovation brought about industrialisation,

The second was in the 1900s when electrical power became widely used leading to mass production,

The third was in 50’s to 2000’s with electronics and ICT,

The fourth is now with digital technology creating change (a lot of which is disruptive) which is taking place at an exponential rate.

Digital systems are disruptive to traditional work-place methodology as we know it. There are a number of digital systems which are disruptive including robotic processing, AI, Mobile technologies, digital fabrications, analytics, big data, clouds services, blocked chain, Quanton computing, social media, Facebook and twitter.

All these represent a sea change in commerce which Gary’s company is trying to harness.

The processes that are offered by Quanton effect the large corporate entities such as insurance companies, banking entities and health care. These enable various systems operated by those entities to talk to each other rather than operate as silos in isolation from each other. The digital process enables business to repatriate outsourced activities back to New Zealand.

Rotary Youth Exchange
From Alastair MacFarlane;

Applications are now  open for 2019 exchange and will close at the end of April 2018.

Available spaces are limited

Someone in our club will have a connection with someone that has a student that will want to apply for an exchange be it a family member, a relative, a work colleague or a friend. Please urge members to spread the word about this wonderful opportunity. Offering the opportunity to live in another country for 12 months will certainly excite so it is an easy programme to promote and the cost of an outbound student to a club is minimal.
